I worked with ESPN, Marvel Entertainment and Second Spectrum on the Emmy-nominated Marvel™ Arena of Heroes: an augmented-reality broadcast that merged live NBA basketball with the Marvel universe.

Award-winning broadcast, powered by data

Players on the court became Marvel™ heroes, each with powers and a story. Their real performance earned “hero points,” tying the game to the tales of Captain America, Iron Man and the rest.

How it works

I designed AR overlays that showed each player’s feats in real time.

Tipping it off

Computer vision tracked the action live, and the design kept the hero-points system easy to follow without crowding the screen. The animation tied big moments in the game to Marvel story arcs and cinematic cues, so every dunk, block and three became a small epic.
