Ryan Skid

Forward deployed creative for
companies
building the future.

Emmy-winning video for engineering & sales-led teams. Design you ship as code.

TODO: This is the 2022 resume reel. Swap in the new 60–90s reel (03 §4) when it’s cut.

You built the hard part.
Now make people get it.

Engineering-led teams ship products that are hard to explain. Sales-led teams ship content to a quota. Either way, the product is better than the launch video, the site and the posts make it look. I join your team for the weeks that matter, ship the work at broadcast quality, and set your brand up so whoever makes the next thing (a designer, a marketer or an AI agent) gets it right too.

01

Inside your team

I work in your Slack, on your launch date, with whoever you have. No agency layer, no account manager, no notes passed through three people.

02

Ship at broadcast quality

The director behind Emmy-winning live NFL graphics, working on a startup clock: the launch film, the explainer and every cut you need for launch day.

03

Keep the system

Your look, motion and voice, written as instructions your team and its AI tools can follow. The next thirty videos stay on-brand without me in the room.

Case study · Skillsync (YC)

One week inside Skillsync

A YC company with a launch date and no creative team. Here's the week, day by day, including the part they kept.

Launch

Launch film, day one

Founder interviews shot on iPhone, cut and graded the same day, with a generative "head explosion" sequence built from my own storyboard.

TODO: Ryan's real director's notes for Oct 11.

TODO: paste Ryan’s actual brief for the launch film here.

Two or three lines, as written in Slack or Claude Code.

Launch

A 4K explainer that shows the product

52 seconds on what Skillsync actually does, in ten scenes locked to a 120 BPM grid. Built in code, so every change is a re-render, not a redo.

TODO: Ryan's real director's notes for Oct 12. This Vimeo embed is domain-whitelisted; add ryanskid.com (and localhost for dev) in Vimeo.

TODO: paste the explainer brief.

Launch

Three social clips, cut from the system

Launch-day cuts for X and LinkedIn, made with the same motion rules as the film.

TODO: Ryan's real director's notes for Oct 14.

TODO: paste the social brief.

TODO: add the three social clips (vertical + 16:9).

Kernel

The part they kept, reused

The explainer's motion system, written as three agent skills, made a brand-new video a few days later. Nobody wrote a new brief.

TODO: Ryan's real director's notes for Oct 15.

TODO: paste the one-line prompt that kicked off the reuse.

TODO: add the video made from the skills, or a screen capture of the skill running.

Launch

A brand film, scripted

Script and a 66-shot list for a :60 brand film, written to the same pacing rules and already in pre-production.

TODO: Ryan's real director's notes for Oct 17.

TODO: paste the brand film brief.

TODO: add the script excerpt or animatic.

“Ryan helped position Juspay as a global brand. He took content into overdrive, by installing structure, up-skilling designers and managers, and increasing both quality and quantity as we doubled our creative headcount.”

Launch

Your launch, shipped in four weeks.

For the day that sets your first impression: Demo Day, the raise announcement, a Product Hunt launch, a v2.

  • A 60–90 second launch film
  • An explainer that shows what the product actually does
  • Every cut launch day needs: 15s, 30s, vertical, founder-to-camera
  • Launch-day social posts
  • Yours to keep: a Kernel, so everything after launch stays on-brand

from $28,000, fixed scope

3–4 weeks

Skillsync: a launch film, a 4K explainer, social clips and a brand film script in one week.

Scope your launch

Kernel

Your brand, as code.

Brand guidelines are a PDF nobody opens. A Kernel turns your look, motion and voice into instructions your team, your contractors and your AI tools follow every time, so whether something comes out on-brand stops depending on who made it.

  • Brand skills your team's AI tools load and follow (Claude Code and similar)
  • Motion templates with your system built in (code or After Effects)
  • A reference library of what's on-brand and what isn't
  • A one-hour handoff with your team

$7,500 fixed

1–2 weeks

Skillsync's motion system became three skills, then made a second video with no new brief.

Start with a Kernel

Embed

A creative lead on your team, without the search.

Most Series A teams need senior creative judgment for the next two quarters, not the next five years. I join two to three days a week and run creative as if it were my own team.

  • Creative direction on every launch, release and campaign
  • A weekly content engine your team can run
  • Hands-on training for whoever you have
  • A Kernel that grows with the brand
  • Help writing the role and interviewing, if you decide to hire

$22,000/month

2–3 days a week · 2–6 months

Juspay: six months with a 45-person creative team; production time down 71%.

FAQ

Questions founders ask

What's a forward deployed creative?

A creative lead who works inside your team the way a forward deployed engineer does: in your tools, on your timeline, shipping the work and leaving the system behind. AI tool companies hire FDCs to get you using their product. I'm independent, so my only job is your launch.

The long version
We're engineers. We don't really have a brand.

That's most of the companies I work with. We start from what's true about the product and build the brand, the system and the first launch together. Full Stack covers the whole thing.

Why $28k when a launch-video studio charges $3k?

A studio sells you a video. Launch is the film, the explainer, every cut and the system that keeps the next thirty pieces on-brand. Compare it with a premium agency (commonly $25k–$150k and six to twelve weeks) or a senior hire (months to find, and a full salary), not with a template.

How is this different from an agency?

One person from script to final frame, in your Slack. No account manager passing notes along, and you keep the system at the end.

What do we own at the end?

Everything: the films, the project files and the Kernel (skills, templates and reference library). Run it, extend it, or hand it to your next hire.

Do you use AI-generated footage?

When it's the better tool, yes. I direct it like any other footage, and nothing ships that wouldn't pass a broadcast review.

What if we don't like the first cut?

Two rounds of revisions per deliverable are included, and any change of scope is quoted before work starts.

TODO: Confirm Ryan's revision policy.

How soon can you start?

I take a small number of deployments at a time. Launch slots usually open two to three weeks out.

TODO: Confirm real availability; delete if not true.

Remote or on-site?

Remote by default; on-site for kickoffs, shoots and workshops.

TODO: Confirm base city and travel.

How do you price?

Fixed price for Launch, Kernel, Full Stack and Workshop; monthly for Embed. The prices on this page are where each one starts, and you see the full number before anything begins.
